Quaker and agricultural innovator, Birkbeck is best known for his
travel books. Early and important Illinois material.

architectural imagination for which the city is so noted had not
yet come into full flower. Has a section of small colored maps of
the states and Canadian dominions at the back. Dybwad & Bliss 1630
cites four variants of this volume but not this one in brown
