Manuscripts includes small plat drawing of Paul Choutrau’s land. He was one of the early fur traders. With signatures of both Bates and White, important Missouri Territorial figures. Missouri Pacific Railway Co. Printed placard. "Notice To Passengers And Employees." List of fifteen company rules for employees and passengers that were to be strictly enforced. Ordered by A.A. Talmage, General Transportation Manager of the line. Rule 12 reads, "Gambling or betting on cards or games of chance must not be permitted, even if necessary to resort to force to eject parties so engaged from cars." Saint Louis, Mo. 1883, July 2. Slightly smoke damaged. Promotional brochure for an enterprise of pharoahic proportions,- part correspondence schools for women, part women's club, part university. Involving massive neo-Egyptian buildings in St. Louis, chapter houses across the country, and a large faculty, the scheme was paid for by profits from the St. Louis Daily and Sunday Star newspaper and numerous magazines published by the Lewis firms. While encouraging study courses for women, the ulterior motive was to sell magazines.  I.D.#09248.
