[cartouche label missing, exact title uncertain]. c1890. A large
size Johnston floor globe in unusual and attractive ebonized
stand. Cartouche lacking, apparently never pasted on the orb.
Coated paper gores over plaster, brass time dial at North Pole.
Oceans finished in pale green with ecliptic, analemma and tropics
of Cancer and Capricorn. Cast brass full ring meridian set into a
full mount ebonized floor stand. Horizon ring supported by four
turned legs with similar stretchers. Oklahoma and Indian Territory
still united. Shows pre Boer War South Africa. In Texas, the towns
shown below Austin are Brenham, Richmond, Antonio (without San),
and Victoria. Ft. Davis shown in west Texas. Rio Grande River
called Rio Grande del Norte. San Angelo is spelled St Angelo.
Yellowstone Park shown. North and South Dakota divided into two
states (1889). Solid attractive stand. Professional refurbishment
with stains and blemishes near North Pole and West Indies. Some
fading. Very graceful mounting for a large older globe. Imposing
centerpiece display for boardroom or fine library.
