Uncoated gores over pasteboard, plastic time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in yellow with vignette depictions of various sailing ships. Cast bronzed full ring meridian moving within art moderne pillars atop a raised walnut boxlike book holder. No atlas present. Shows nautical distances, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the International Date Line. British Empire in pink, Chosen (Korea) and Formosa as Japanese territory. Shows the Third Reich in its post-Munich borders; Czechoslovakia does not exist and Slovenia is a German protectorate. Some surface abrasions and small blemishes. Handsome production. I.D.#07168. Oceans finished in brown with dark brown continents in pseudo historical style. Physical features only, no political geography. Does show a few major cities, mountain ranges and rivers. Oceans show depictions of historic sailing ships. Sits in a gray plastic cradle stand without a meridian. A small surface dent and surface spot. Seldom seen Rand McNally globe type. Outbreak of war curtailed further use of steel for globe orbs. I.D.#10202.

On table mount with silvered cast metal half meridian on round turned mahogany cabuchon base. Shows nautical distances, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the International Date Line and eight vignette color illustrations of famous exploring ships. British Empire in pink, Chosen (Korea) and Formosa as Japanese territory. Shows the Third Reich in its post-Munich borders; Czechoslovakia does not exist and Slovenia is a German protectorate. Retailed in 1944, but using the last of the prewar chromed meridians. Shows nautical distances, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the International Date Line. untitled. [child's table globe]. J. Chein & Co. Burlington, NJ. c1940. 5.5 inch transfer painted steel orb without time dial. Oceans finished in medium blue, with detailed multicolored map surfaces. Includes Ecliptic, Equinoctial Colure, nautical distances and the famous flights. Half meridian of shaped hollow tin, red finished, hollow tin column, on round pressed tin red base with colored months, seasons and zodiac rings. Surface shows extensive Japanese conquests in China and in Europe nazi expansion but Southeast Asia still independent. Pre-Pearl Harbor. Later much improved version of I.D.#04801. Good condition. Oceans finished in pea green with International Date Line, nautical distances and small representations of famous sailing ships. On this, the largest size of the Art Globe, the little sailing ships are actually named. Cast white metal full ring meridian on a full mount walnut Duncan Phyfe three leg stand. Names each small atoll in the South Pacific. Slovakia shown as a German Protectorate. Spots of surface corrosion. Lower grommet damaged with considerable rubbing in near Antarctica. Early wartime top end model. Rare size. I.D.#08179.

A later issue of I.D. #03631 with comma removed from Rand McNally firm name, and word 'longitude' substituted for latitude. Spindle axis holes at either pole covered with a round printed patch, that at North Pole lacking. Wartime glass substitute base. Surface fading and water spots. Novel base, attractive combination. Oceans finished in olive green with International Date Line, Ecliptic and analemma. A good quality orb, vintage 1938, overprinted with the world's airline routes in red. Sits in a wood grained cardboard cradle labeled "Air=Ways Globe" with horizon ring showing flying time based on 300 M.P.H., the wind system, the atmosphere, and Great Circles. An unusual wartime school globe. Excellent condition for an ephemeral item. I.D.#07164.

8 inch Terrestrial globe... No 80. Cram, George F. Indianapolis. c1941. Coated paper gores over pasteboard, time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in gray green with Equinoctial Colure/International Date Line, ocean currents, nautical distances and analemma. Axis pivot only on turned wood dish like base. Nazi empire includes Luxemburg and Slovakia. Same as I.D.#06711 but year or so later. Repaired at equator. I.D.#07329.

New Peerless 12 inch globe. Terrestrial Globe... Weber Costello Co. Chicago Heights, IL. c1941. Coated paper gores over pasteboard. Plastic time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in light blue with Equinoctial Colure, Ecliptic, nautical distances, ocean currents, and analemma. Cast metal gray tone full ring meridian within conforming cradle on square moderne mahogany wood base. Interesting early World War 2 globe, showing wartime mount. Poland divided between USSR and Germany, Hungary and Slovenia shown as part of Axis, Manchukuo extends southwest to Great Wall. Shown in red are air flight times, China Clipper and Kingsford-Smith Honolulu-Sydney flight, May 31-June 9, 1928. Duration 83 hours, 4 minutes. Shows Hindenburg dirigible route. Shows a few short wave stations in red. Surface water damaged and stained. Scarce, half the price of a find example. I.D.#09959. SOLD.

Luxemburg in Europe colored red not recognizing the nazi invasion. International political partisanship rarely found on globes. Excellent condition. I.D.#06262.

Oceans finished in light blue with Equinoctial Colure, Ecliptic, nautical distances, ocean currents, and analemma. Cast metal gray tone half ring meridian on round stepped round two-tone art deco wooden base. Hungary and Slovenia shown as part of Axis, Poland shown divided, Manchukuo extends southwest to Great Wall. Shown in red are air flight times, China Clipper and Kingsford Smith China Clipper route.  Shows Graf Zeppelin route.  Lower grommet repaired.   I.D.#10121.

Shows Axis conquests at their largest extent, either in red (Nazi) or yellow (Jap.) Maps on a polar projection. Still shows Chosen and Manchoukuo in the Far East. I.D.#10263.

Color transfer painted steel orb, without meridian, time dial at North Pole. Weighted from within. Attached to an art deco cast white metal base marked New York World's Fair 1939. (Original to the piece?) Shows Chungking and Kunming in southern China, an undivided Korea, Indochina not termed 'French'.  One surface dent, small surface scrape at Azores. Only globe with stand we have encountered like this. I.D.#10108.

Ethiopia not yet designated Italian, Manchukuo instead of Manchutikuo. Wartime reissue of a 1936 design omitting the short wave stations and adding the Assam Road, Burma Road and Russian Road in China and Southeast Asia. Good condition. I.D.#08963. SOLD.

Shows wartime roads such as Burma and Assam Roads and Alaska Highway. Shows the world railroads. Wooden rod offset mounted to brown finished pressed glass base. With tag explaining that after the war boundary changes would be made available as stickers to be affixed to the surface. Very informative World War 2 globe. Boundaries as of September 1, 1939 with red overprinting. Surface stains and dent. I.D.#07189.  SOLD.

Spellings conform to official rulings of United States Geographic Board and Royal Geographical Society. No. 4. The George F. Cram Company. Indianapolis. c1945. Attractive orb with dull-coated gores over pasteboard dressed in white plastic. Heavy private residence orb quality. Oceans finished in pea green, large analemma scale in Pacific. Nautical distances shown in red, time dial at North Pole present but detached. Laid into an olive crackle-finish steel cradle with horizon ring supported by conforming struts; a so-called Douthit mount named for its inventor the late Mr. Douthit, president of the George F. Cram Co. Horizon ring has distances, time and latitude degree scales and speaks of bomber and transport plane air speeds. Cram's best schoolroom globe issued immediately after VJ-Day with good coverage of the railroads of Asia. European boundaries of immediately after World War 2 with Austria and Czechoslovakia restored. India and Burma still under British with Pakistan not yet formed. Unusual in that it shows "Palestine & Israel".  Cradle fitted into what appears to have been a four-legged oak stool with the seat removed and its frame used as a floor stand. Found in the Hudson Valley and believed used at Stewart Army Air Base to instruct cadets in aerial navigation. Nice display piece and a rare survival. I.D.#04991.

Used by either the navy or air force as lecture  platform and classroom training apparatus for geography and  navigation.  Orb size non-standard, not found in  commercial globes. Oceans finished in robinegg blue with International Date Line and ocean distances. Does not show Pakistan, lock plate missing. Base once red as been re-sprayed blue with discoloring in the southern hemisphere. Dents. Same as I.D.#04319. I.D.#08185.

Post WW2 simplified surface with   divided Europe shown. Palestine and Trans-Jordan but not Israel   or Pakistan. Cartographer's name not given. A highly unusual globe custom made for official government diplomatic purposes. Firstly, the diameter is slightly larger than the standard 12" globe bought in map stores for home use. The longitude and latitude lines are subdivided and closer together than on commercial globes. The boundaries are either 1937 ones or else changed by state department geographer Dr. Samuel W. Boggs. A long note on surface in very fine print explains the 1947 U.S. posture on certain Soviet and other land claims; some like Kashmir is still under contention today. In defining new boundaries, Dr. Boggs had great discretion in creating borders and was instrumental in developing and shaping the Office of the Geographer during the thirty years he presided over it. For instance, this globe shows both East and West Pakistan (1948) but Dr. Boggs declined to mention Israel because its boundaries had not been definitively determined. He named Cape Boggs in Antarctica (70 degrees Lat., 60 degrees Long.) for himself. Dr. Boggs served as State Department Geographer from 1924 until his death in 1954. The globe then was owned first by his sister, later her son, and then her daughter until acquired by Murray Hudson. Literature: Leo Dillon. Finely mounted with a cast chromed full ring meridian in a cradle with screw adjustment on a modernistic style silvered heavy cast iron table base with incised stylized conch shell swirls and six short supporting legs. Cradle is marked Rand McNally Patent No. 3.2014290-2029252. Shows Pakistan but Korea and Indochina still undivided. Some surface checking and abrasions. Unusually fine mount for a schoolroom globe. Only example we have seen. I.D.#06293.

Pakistan not separately colored, Israel name added, Indo-China no longer French, Pacific islands are U.S. Trustee Territory. Shows physical notables like the Mindanao Deep (35,400 ft.), Great Pyramids, Great Wall of China, etc. Intended for classroom use, an interesting example of early cooperation in the highly competitive commercial globe business. Some separating at equator and dust soiling. Small surface loss at Canada. I.D.#06954.

George F. Cram Co. Cram's Unrivaled Terrestrial Globe -12 inch- Made By/The George F. Cram Co. Indianapolis, Indiana. 1949. Extremely handsome post WWII globe made of glass covered by printed color paper gores. Mounted in a cast metal full meridian fitting into a pair of grooved cast bronze atlas figures supporting the world on their backs. The atlases are mounted on a sculpted walnut base 15" long, 5.25 inches deep and 1.25 inches high. A pull chain beneath the globe switches on the internal light. The gores appear as brightly colored as new, as the globe was stored in a closet for many years by its original owner, from whom it was purchased. Besides the usual title label and analemma, the globe depicts u.s. mainline railroads, steamship line and distances, ocean currents (California current, gulf stream, Peru current, Sargasso Sea, Kuro Siwo <Japanese black current>. Galapagos islands refer to "Archip. De Colon". Tanganyika territory, Sp. Guinea, Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, Gold Coast and Ethiopia (Abysinnia) in Africa. Mongolian People's Republic, Great Wall of China, undivided Korea, Indochina, East & West Pakistan, Thailand (Siam), Iran (Persia), and a brand new Israel. Surface shows Indonesia in 1949 but before Germany was divided into East and West. Laos and Cambodia not yet shown. Next to the Terrestrial Art globes, this is the finest Rand McNally mid 20th century production. Handsome traditional Duncan Phyfe style furniture that is well made and varnished. Colorful surface. Couple small paper losses in Greenland Sea area due to heat burns and small spots in the South Atlantic. Otherwise very good condition. I.D.#10287.

On deluxe chromed cast half meridian mounting same as used on Starlight models. Very detailed  reference surface, pre Korean war, Israel and Pakistan but Indo China no longer French.  Surface of chrome mount slightly pitted but exceptionally well preserved. With 1954 instruction booklet "The story of the globe" and instruction sheet "How to change the bulb in your illuminated globe". Some loosening of gores at seams due to leaving the bulb lit for too long but a nice set in fine condition.   I.D.#10093.

German.  Columbusverlag. Columbus - Schulerglobus 4.5" hollow plastic orb. Coated paper gores. No time dial Oceans finished in light blue. Very detailed school globe but few physical details other than main currents. Offset mounted on a wood column and round flat wood base imprinted with German railways logo and Reiseburo J. Harimann Dusseldorf. Shows Israel and Pakistan but with Indochina still French and Korea undivided.  Columbusverlag Paul Oestergaard K.G.. Berlin/Stuttgart. c1949. Brown glue stains at edges of gores. Otherwise nice.  I.D.#10301. SOLD.

Oceans colored blue green with Equinoctial Colure, a few nautical distances but no analemma. Gilded cast metal half meridian on woodgrained round stamped metal base. Very similar to I.D.#03787 but with no analemma and on a standard table mount. Some surface losses and damage to the South Pole grommet. I.D.#07190.

Length of a degree of longitude,  show at each 10 degrees of latitude on meridian 30 w. Spellings  conform to official rulings of United States Geographic Board and Royal Geographical Society. No.3 The George F. Cram Company. Indianapolis, Indiana. c1949. Shiny coated gores over pasteboard, time dial at  North Pole. Oceans tinted blue, no analemma scale in Pacific.  Ocean currents shown and sea lane distances. With gilt half meridian scale, mounted to round pressed metal base with blue accent line. Shows a unified Korea, Indochina so spelled without hyphen and not designated as  French, Thailand (Siam) in bold capitals and with Siam in  brackets. Shows Mongolian People's Republic in dark green. Very nice bright condition. I.D.#10235.

Oceans finished in pea green with Prime Meridian, International Date Line and nautical distances. Crackle finish gray cast metal half meridian on round stepped metal base. Shows Pakistan but with Indo-China and Korea still united. Fine preservation. Same as I.D.#04159. I.D.#07258.

Oceans finished in avocado green with International Date Line, north and south tropic "sun lines", ocean currents, and ocean deeps. Laid into round steel cradle, felted, with horizon ring raised on six conforming steel ferules. Unusual in that the orb is by Johnston with the cradle by George F. Cram Co. Air speed distances shown for both propeller and jet aircraft. Pakistan and Israel are shown and with Indo-China no longer French. One surface dent. I.D.#08098.

Ocean finished in medium blue with International Date Line and airline distances with propeller driven planes stopping at Wake Island. Conforming spring steel ferule riveted to raised conical base finished in red showing various forms of transportation in black, boats, trains, planes, trucks, etc. Model D-174. Same orb as I.D.#03649 but a smaller size. Korea and Vietnam divided, Inchon, Hue and DaNang located. I.D.#07154.

Airline distances show propeller driven planes and stops at Wake Island. Same orb as I.D.#07154 but another style base. Fine. I.D.#07156.
