SLOTTED BASE WITH SCARCE INSTRUCTION BOOK

Replogle Globes, Inc. Simplified 8 inch globe.  Gustav Brueckmann, cartographer. Chicago. 1950. Transfer painted steel orb, time dial at North Pole.  Oceans finished in medium blue with International Date Line and Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.  Gold-toned stamped steel half meridian on domed base above red finished shaped steel slot container containing a copy of "See the world on a globe" by Mercedes Guyette. ©1951.  Siam now called Thailand, Indochina  not French.  Good condition.  Unusual in such condition and with globe book intact.   I.D.#07333.

Replogle Globes, Inc. Replogle 12 inch Starlight globe. Legend...  Designed and edited by Gustav Brueckmann, cartographer. Chicago. 1950. Coated paper gores over pasteboard, time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in black with International Date Line and a few nautical distances. Cast metal half meridian on round chromed stamped raised base. Indo-China not French, Korea still united, shows Pakistan. Similar to I.D.#07451 but with a nicer  meridian and mount.  I.D.#08947.

American. untitled. [little man seated upon stack of large books inspects globe of the heavens] Philadelphia. c1950. Advertising desk ornament created by or for the Philadelphia Manufacturing Company. Sticker beneath. Weighted and felted. Quite heavy. Cute and attractive. I.D.#10169. 

 

TRIPPENSEE USING A CRAM GLOBE AND LIGHTED

American. George F. Cram Co. The Elementary Planetarium only by Trippensee.  The Trippensee Planetarium Co. Saginaw, Mich, U.S.A. c1950. Plastic yellow sun with attached wood sphere representing the planets, 12.5" metal boom inset with minute compass, 3" Cram globe with attached moon. Activated by plastic clockwork gears and chain. Round fluted base with seasons and equinox. Entirely finished in blue. Yellow sun is lighted within electrically and has a hole in its surface allowing 'sun rays' to shine through.  Long a useful piece of school demonstration apparatus. Some paint chipping on support column but very good. I.D.#10198. 

Weber Costello Co. 16 Inch Beginner's Weber Costello  Educator Beginner's globe. Edith P. Parker, editor. Legend... Model 366 AH-18.  Benefic Press. Chicago. c1950. Coated paper gores over pasteboard, time dial at  North Pole. Oceans finished in jade green with no analemma.  Gold-toned strap steel ferule mount without meridian on a round  conical base. Very simplified maps with few place names. Both  Korea and Vietnam not named but Alaska and Hawaii are both  designated U.S. states. Schoolroom globe in extremely fine  condition.  I.D.#04323.

Both halves of orb  misassembled causing faulty register. Indochina not called  French, Korea not divided, Siam still shown rather than Thailand.  I.D.#04798.  

Avon Products. Untitled.  Molded glass perfume flask shaped as a world globe of the 17th century. c1950. 4.75" high. On three-legged brown plastic stand.  Gold-tone finish flaking.  I.D.#06365.

Nautical distances in red. Cast gold-toned metal  half meridian on stepped round base finished in tan with blue  accent line. Shows Pakistan and Indochina no longer French.  Considerable surface abrasions and losses. Fair.   I.D.#06387.

Oceans tinted blue green, analemma scale in Pacific.  Ocean currents shown and sea lane distances. Gilt metal cast half meridian on a tan finished dome base with blue accent lining.  Shows a unified Korea, Indochina so spelled without hyphen and  not designated as French, Thailand (Siam) in bold capitals and  with Siam in brackets. Slightly later issue than I.D.#06373.   I.D.#06958.

Oceans finished in gray-green with  International Date Line. Pressed tin full ring meridian raised on round dome base. Entire mount gilded. Indochina and Korea still  united but shows Inchon. Siam first called Thailand. Lock plate  lacking. . I.D.#07158. 

 

UNIQUE HAND CRAFTED MODERN ART STAND

Dalmau Carles Pla S.A. untitled.  [Spanish 9 inch terrestrial globe]  Dalmau Carles Pla S.A. Madrid ?. c1950. Hollow white plastic orb with coated paper gores.  Without time dial or meridian. Oceans finished in pea green with  only International Date Line. Simplified surfaces but still an  adult globe. Mount is a custom made welded art construction  consisting of scraps of pipe, cable and hand wrought iron. Metals include iron, copper and brass. Very imaginative, in the manner  of Picasso. 42 inches high, gilded. Shows Pakistan but a still  united Vietnam and Korea. Surface labeling entirely in Spanish.  Orb repaired at South Pole with added grommet. Highly unusual.  I.D.#07166.  

 

Globe Clock. Zonemaster. "The Presidential"  Model G-1 Made in U.S.A. c1950. Globe shape brass housing with the Pacific region  the electric clock dials. The small dial records local time, the  larger so-called "World Time." Scroll directory of cities in base and AM-PM lights and "Zone Dial." Functions need repair.  Interesting.  I.D.#07636.

Pressed tin full ring meridian with scale on one side only raised from dish like base with game questions and spinner. With Israel and Pakistan. Indochina and Korea still united. Shows Inchon in Korea. Also shows Thailand/Siam. Surface crazing but clean and superior. I.D.#08209.

With oceans finished in pea green, ecliptic, equinoctial colure, International Date Line, analemma, with some nautical distances in red and bold ocean currents. Bronze-toned fixed metal half meridian with degree scale raised on round domed bronzed pressed metal base. Shows railroads in Asia and a united Korea.  Indochina is spelled without hyphen and without mention of  'French', Thailand in large letters with (Siam) in brackets. Has Pakistan and Israel. One abrasion spot on surface, slight moisture separating of gores. Good early pre-Vietnam War globe. I.D.#08237.

Chicago Heights, Illinois. c1950. 12 inch orb, coated paper gores over pasteboard,  time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in pale blue with  steamship lines shown in red. Cast metal half meridian on round  stepped pressed steel base finished in gun metal gray. Indo-China no longer French, Korea independent and undivided.  Trucial Oman  shown on Arabian Peninsula. Generally nice condition. I.D.#08253.  SOLD.

Full ring meridian in bronze that rests on metal roller built into the four legged mahogany finished floor stand moderne in style. Shows Israel but with Korea undivided. Slight surface nick in South America but in very good condition overall.  Handsome larger lighted globe.  I.D.#10106.

Color print over steel, medium blue ocean   surfaces, base red with white lettering. Large compass rose in   Pacific near Alaska. British Empire no longer pink. Fairly   detailed surface with International Date Line, tropics of Cancer  and Capricorn, air distances in red, nautical distances. Shows   Israel but not Pakistan. Upper hemisphere misaligned with lower. Locking plate lacking.   I.D.#09005. 

SCARCE MODERN CELESTIAL GLOBE 

Cram, George F. Co. Cram's 16 inch Celestial globe. The George F. Cram Co., Inc. Indianapolis. c1950.  Coated paper gores over plastic, time dial at   North Pole. Heavens finished in medium blue with celestial   equator, ecliptic, autumnal and vernal equinoctial   colures,   summer and winter solstitial colules. Dates of the year showing   that visible at any given time. Names the zodiac configurations   but does not show them. Popular configurations such as "big   dipper," "the sickle," etc. shown by yellow lines. With full ring gold-toned cast meridian laid into a bent wire cradle that   supports an horizon ring with printed table of time, degrees,   zodiac signs, compass headings and months. Fine condition. Among  the last celestial globes as known for centuries before NASA and the Hubbell telescope provide a more realistic view of the universe today. I.D.#09044.  

Cram, George F. Co. Cram's Project globe. 16 inch   Scale 500 miles to the inch.   The George F. Cram Co, Inc. Indianapolis. c1950. Coated washable paper gores over plastic. No time  dial. Oceans finished in medium blue with ocean currents shown   and named. Present but not named are equator, ecliptic, tropics   of Cancer and Capricorn, analemma. Latitude figures shown and   date the sun crosses equator. Set on a crackle finish steel   Douthit-style cradle base. No topographic or political features.  Fine condition.   I.D.#09045.

An older style globe in one of its last editions. Indochina no longer French, Israel shown in   red, Pakistan separately colored, Thailand (Siam). Some rubbing at joins of gores, older style mounting parts being used up. Noted for the railroads of Asia, a style of surface rarely used by Cram after World War 2.    I.D.#09971.  

American. "Kitsch" globe. Ceramic standing ashtray or planter.  Shawnee. U.S.A. c1950.   4" relief orb on burgundy colored half meridian base. 7.2 inches overall height.  Pastel yellow and green earth with large opening in Pacific Ocean. I.D.#07776.  

Nystrom, A.J. & Co. Nystrom 12 inch Readiness globe...  1 inch on the globe stands for 660 miles on the  earth (white stands for) ocean depths under 600 feet.  A.J. Nystrom & Co. Chicago. c1950. Coated paper gores over pasteboard, time dial at  North Pole.  Oceans finished light blue, with International Date  Line.  Colorful simplified surface.  Offset mount on stepped  round wood grained steel base.  No meridian.  Indochina not French but before partition.  United Korea.  Shows Pakistan.  Elementary school-room globe after World War 2.    I.D.#07197.  

Chein, J. & Co. untitled. [Child's retrospective globe]. Burlington, NJ. c1950. Transfer painted steel orb without time dial.   Oceans finished in light gray green with International Date  Line/Equinoctial colure, Ecliptic, tropics of Cancer and  Capricorn.  Conforming spring steel ferule mount on octagonal  pressed steel base finished in wood grain brown and with zodiac  scales in colors.  Has historic flights such as Graf Zeppelin and Lindbergh and also nautical distances, Japanese wartime  incursions into China but with post war occurrences such as  Pakistan, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, etc. Simplified surfaces.   Surface dents but very good.  I.D.#07842.

Bronzed metal shade and base incorporating globe  as part of column.  Transfer painted hollow steel orb without  meridian.  Oceans finished medium blue with International Date  Line, Ecliptic, nautical distances, Lindbergh and Graf Zeppelin  flights.  Kitsch effect with crossed Confederate flags mounted to base.  Shows Pakistan, Indo China no longer French.  Base dented, upper part of globe rust flecked.  I.D.#07883.

Indochina and Korea both  united, shows Israel and Pakistan.  Air distances in red with  propeller driven planes with stops at Wake Island.  Few surface  dents, lock plate lacking.  I.D.#08896. 

UNUSUAL LIGHTED 8 INCH GLOBE

Dull paper gores over glass, lighted from within,  time dial at North Pole.  Oceans finished in olive green, with  International Date Line.  Slightly simplified surfaces with many titles and boundaries overprinted in red.  No  mention of cartographer, Brueckmann. Chrome cast metal half  meridian on chrome finished pressed metal base.  Shows West and East Pakistan. Indochina no longer French. Gores loosening from excess heat.  Scarce small  lighted globe.  I.D.#10104. 

REPLOGLE FULL MOUNT GLOBE

Chicago. c1950. Coated paper gores over glass, time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in blue. On cast full meridian  mounted on a full mount walnut stand of three turned legs with turned stretchers. Very detailed reference surface, pre Korean war, Indo China no longer French, Thailand [only], shows Pakistan and Israel. Continental shelves in white. Some surface soiling but on an elegant well turned stand, possibly custom, better than the stock stands of the period. I.D.#08251. 

LARGE TABLE INSTRUCTION GLOBE

[Nystrom, A. J.& Co.?] untitled. [20 inch project globe]  Denoyer Geppert Company. Chicago. c1950. Precision constructed with 20 inch hollow metal  orb. Land masses in craqueled brown, oceans in olive green.  Only latitude scales marked on surface.  Supported by precision stainless steel ferule and clamp on an adjustable steel table stand, finished in dark brown. Precision constructed used possibly for army. Classroom training apparatus for geography and  navigation. Orb surface in generally clean condition. I.D.#10071. SOLD.

 

INTERNALLY LIGHTED ATLAS BASE

Dull coated gores over glass, time dial at North  Pole. Oceans in medium blue. Electrically lighted from within  with pull chain switch. Fixed cast metal half meridian on slotted metal base containing the Replogle World Atlas edited for them by C.S. Hammond. 1950 issue. Shows Equinoctial Colure/International  Date Line and very few airline distances. Surface dust soiled and metal slightly pitted. Atlas lacks dust jacket, but is scarce in  any condition.  I.D.#03543.

INTERESTING JAPANESE OCEANOGRAPHIC FLOOR GLOBE

Japanese. Surface text entirely in Japanese. Tokyo. ©1950. Physical-Political globe with 11" orb. Color photolithographic gores over plastic. Oceans finished in varying shades of blue to indicate depths with detailed ocean currents. Meticulous portrayal of oceanography of Pacific. Highly detailed coverage of the world's railroads. Chrome plated full ring meridian raised on chrome plated pipe column and circular base. Shows Korea as divided and post-WW2 Europe. Some surface losses near equator. I.D.#09973c.

Functioning schoolroom tellurian, small compass  set into arm.  3" globe of the earth with paper gores has  simplified surface but shows Leopoldville in Africa. large yellow plastic sun.  Nice condition.  I.D.#08163.

Coated paper gores over pasteboard orb, time dial  at North Pole.  Oceans finished in pale blue with Equinoctial   Colure, Ecliptic, tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, ocean currents boldly outlined, and analemma scale.  Cast base metal meridian on short stepped column finished dark brown above large round   crackle-finished steel base.  Schoolroom demonstration model with articulated revolving cast metal "Sun Rays" indicator with   pointer at foot directed to a colored paper scale on the base   surface, sub-titled, "Cram's Deluxe Globe with automatic Daily   Sun Ray and Season Indicator."  Israel and Pakistan present,   Indochina no longer French, but shows Korea and Indochina still   united. Sturdy professional quality. Upper hemisphere faded, base scale waterstained but an unusual pedagogic globe.   I.D.#08986.

BCN. untitled. Celestial globe with constellations in English, the rest in Russian] Precision meridians and horizon scale, fitted within oak deck case. Diameter about 6.5" diameter mounted within a concentric series of ring that act as a gimbal.  BCN. Moscow?. 1952 (dated on case). Surface shellacked. Locking clasp broken. Interesting cold war training device used in the Russian Navy and Maritime Service for training in celestial navigation. Unusual. I.D.#10101.  (Have more photos if needed)

Oceans finished in deep  pea green with a few nautical distances and the International  Date Line. Mounted on articulated conforming ferrules refinished in black. Surface re-shellacked 'antique' style and custom mounted. On an ebonized cross stretcher table stand with four vertical turned legs, each topped by turned brass finials. Stand partially finished in green to match the globe surface. While made from some small piece of furniture, the mounting is well thought out and stylish with a decided arts and crafts image. Custom globe mountings are often the creations of antique dealers, using salvaged parts, having a makeshift aspect. In an art deco bent wire cradle with unique hinged horizon ring at equator. Very dust soiled with many small surface  abrasions. Horizon ring scale rust spotted. Vietnam and Korea  divided but prior to the United Arab Republic period.  'Centennial' probably refers to the hundredth anniversary period  of Rand McNally.  I.D.#06295.

Oceans finished in medium blue with International Date  Line. Gilded steel circumference ferule articulated to conforming pressed steel mount fixed to an octagonal base of pressed metal,  finished in black and gilt with the planets and their distances  from earth. Korea and Vietnam divided. Surface stenciling  distorted at equator, base wobbly and shaken. Few surface dents.  I.D.#06559.

New York. c1955. 18 inch lithographed plastic air inflated globe.  Oceans finished pale blue with nautical distances.  Without time  dial or meridian on all aluminum mount with conforming ferule on  a cabuchon base. Inflation valve at North Pole. Vietnam and Korea shown divided but French Equatorial Africa still present. Shown  in the South Pacific is the short-lived Territory of the Pacific  Islands, a huge region ceded to the United States for  administration by the United Nations after World War 2.  Schoolroom globe.  I.D.#07204.

Quality cast gold-toned full ring meridian on an  inexpensive round stamped metal wood-grained base.  Excellent  reference globe of college level showing the political world  after the Korean but prior to the Vietnam Wars.  Pakistan still  has east and west, African colonial structure still in place.   Little notes show where Columbus first landed, deepest spot in  ocean (off Philippines approx. 35,400 ft.), distances by sea in  statute miles.  British Empire and protectorates still shown in  pink.  One small surface bruise but generally very fine.  I.D.#04175.

Chein earth globe which revolves as the seasons change.  Intended for schools.  A tellurian is an  apparatus for demonstrating the earth's position and movement  (diurnal rotation, annual revolution, etc.) producing day and  night and the cycle of the seasons.  This device is not a  planetarium as only the earth is present. Complete, as issued.  VERY GOOD CONDITION.  I.D.#07838.

Coated paper gores over pasteboard.  No time dial. Oceans finished in medium blue with tropics of Cancer and  Capricorn, numbered meridians and eliptical analemma with long  note on its use.  Unmounted orb rests in felted violet toned  steel cradle. Very simple surface showing no political  boundaries. Only very large cities located.  Analemma called  Noon-Sun Indicator. Details manner in which time is computed from the sun.  Surface checking, stains and abrasions.  Schoolroom  globe.   I.D.#08076.  

Nystrom, A.J. & Co. Nystrom 16 inch Physical-Political globe.  Edited by A.E. Parkins. Base printed in Great  Britain. Chicago. c1955. Coated paper gores over white plastic.  No time  dial.  Oceans finished in avocado green with International Date  Line, ocean currents and deeps, with tropics called sun-lines.   Umounted and resting in blond wood cross cradle with felt.   Simplified surface with stress on physical features.  Surface  checked with some abrasions and recoloring.   I.D.#08087.  

Rand, McNally & Co. Rand McNally World-Master globe.  One inch equals 1000 miles...  Rand, McNally & Co. Chicago. c1955. 7 inch transfer painted steel orb.  No time at North Pole. Oceans finished deep blue with only International Date Line.   Rose toned cast metal half meridian on raised round pressed steel base.  Child's table globe with simplified surfaces.  Egypt and  Syria colored same, African colonies still shown although Israel and Pakistan are present. Surface decorated with planes, warships and  ocean liners. Same map surface as those used by Disney Productions. Slight rust specks on base but globe itself in very clean condition. I.D.#10013.

Vietnam and Korea divided. Egypt and Syria though  colored the same are not yet united. "Centennial" refers to the  hundredth anniversary of Rand McNally.  I.D.#07788.
