globe" by Mercedes Guyette. ©1951. Siam now called Thailand,
Indochina not French. Good condition. Unusual in such
condition and with globe book intact.

Fine condition and unusual.

The Elementary Planetarium only by Trippensee. The
Trippensee Planetarium Co. Saginaw, Mich, U.S.A. c1950. Plastic
yellow sun with attached wood sphere representing the planets,
12.5" metal boom inset with minute compass, 3" Cram globe with
attached moon. Activated by plastic clockwork gears and chain.
Round fluted base with seasons and equinox. Entirely finished in
blue. Yellow sun is lighted within electrically and has a hole
in its surface allowing 'sun rays' to shine through. Long a
useful piece of school demonstration apparatus. Some paint
chipping on support column but very good.

mount, no meridian, raised from round crackle finish gilded
metal disk base. Shows major topography, Persia and Siam
(instead of Iran and Thailand). Korea and Vietnam not yet
divided. Very nice child's schoolroom globe in very nice
condition for one so fragile.

Pla S.A. Madrid ?. c1950. Hollow white plastic orb with coated
paper gores. Without time dial or meridian. Oceans finished in
pea green with only International Date Line. Simplified
surfaces but still an adult globe. Mount is a custom made
welded art construction consisting of scraps of pipe, cable and
hand wrought iron. Metals include iron, copper and brass. Very
imaginative, in the manner of Picasso. 42 inches high, gilded.
Shows Pakistan but a still united Vietnam and Korea. Surface
labeling entirely in Spanish. Orb repaired at South Pole with
added grommet. Highly unusual.

Capricorn, air distances in red, nautical distances. Shows
Israel but not Pakistan. Upper hemisphere misaligned with lower.
Locking plate lacking.

SCARCE MODERN CELESTIAL GLOBE

Indianapolis. c1950. Coated paper gores over plastic, time dial
at North Pole. Heavens finished in medium blue with
celestial equator, ecliptic, autumnal and vernal equinoctial
colures, summer and winter solstitial colules. Dates of the
year showing that visible at any given time. Names the zodiac
configurations but does not show them. Popular configurations
such as "big dipper," "the sickle," etc. shown by yellow
lines. With full ring gold-toned cast meridian laid into a bent
wire cradle that supports an horizon ring with printed table
of time, degrees, zodiac signs, compass headings and months.
Fine condition. Among the last celestial globes as known for
centuries before NASA and the Hubbell telescope provide a more
realistic view of the universe today.

painted steel orb with day and night dial at North Pole. With
oceans finished in pale blue. Without meridian on an offset
mount. Round base finished with numbers and alphabet. Continents
in white are named and highlighted with cartoons of animals
usually found there. Orange walrus on Greenland. A red fox, bear
and "Mounty" in Canada. A blue-spotted milk cow in eastern U.S.,
a bronc rider getting thrown off in the West. Tiny deer in
Mexico, totem pole in Alaska, a lobster off Maine coast,
sailfish near Florida. Captain drops anchor from a red steamship
in North Atlantic. In Europe an American tourist takes pictures
using a 1930-40's style bellows camera. The Red Sea is straddled
by a green camel. In Africa a red lion wears a crown and an
ostrich has head buried in the sand, a rhino and giraffe also in
Africa. A red octopus wears a sailor hat and uses a spyglass in
South Atlantic. South America has a poinsettia plant, parrot,
toucan, llama and a gaucho. In Antarctica is found penguins
lighting a fire and building a snowman while an Eskimo (!)
watches. A blue whale, sea turtle, colorful bird and fish in
South Pacific. Hawaii has hula girl, North Pacific has another
blue whale, flying fish, and seal off Alaska. A kangaroo and
koala bear found in Australia. Noah's arc is shown in the Indian
Ocean with him fishing from it. A green monkey hangs off
Maylasia. In Asia are a geisha girl, panda with rice bowl and
chopsticks, elephant, tiger and red fox. A funny fellow dressed
in red drives sleigh with four red reindeer down from the North
Pole. While hardly a realistic view of the earth's flora and
fauna the cute cartoons would intrigue the young child. No
damage, unusually fine condition and unusual. First one we have
seen.

metal meridian on short stepped column finished dark brown above
large round crackle-finished steel base. Schoolroom
demonstration model with articulated revolving cast metal "Sun
Rays" indicator with pointer at foot directed to a colored
paper scale on the base surface, sub-titled, "Cram's Deluxe
Globe with automatic Daily Sun Ray and Season Indicator."
Israel and Pakistan present, Indochina no longer French, but
shows Korea and Indochina still united. Sturdy professional
quality. Upper hemisphere faded, base scale waterstained but an

bottom, meridian scale precisely numbered in white. Shows
Baluchistan instead of Pakistan, Indo China, Anglo Egyptian
Sudan and Israel (independent in 1948).

months, with heavy steel ferules labeled day or night, the
assembly copyrighted Dec. 1937 by H.M. Welch Scientific Company,
Chicago. By setting dial on base the orb assumes its celestial
attitude for each day of the year. Map surface shows Indo-China
no longer French, Korea still united. Eniwetok and Bikini
Atolls located. Good condition. Quite scarce.

lamp base with two pull-chain sockets. Conical black paper
shade and eagle finial. The lamp mounting is original and not
after-market. Surface shellacked for antiquing. Korea shows
Inchon, Pusan, Pyongyang and other Korean War locations.

with a few nautical distances and the International Date
Line. Mounted on articulated conforming ferrules refinished in
black. Surface re-shellacked 'antique' style and custom mounted.
On an ebonized cross stretcher table stand with four vertical
turned legs, each topped by turned brass finials. Stand
partially finished in green to match the globe surface. While
made from some small piece of furniture, the mounting is well
thought out and stylish with a decided arts and crafts image.
Custom globe mountings are often the creations of antique
dealers, using salvaged parts, having a makeshift aspect. This
effort is unusual and unusually successful.

and South Poles. Oceans finished in medium blue with
International Date Line and tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
Gilt-tone full ring meridian articulated to metal ferule above
an octagonal pressed metal base decorated with statistics for
each planet. Shows a Central African Federation between
Northern and southern Rhodesia, also a district Spanish Sahara
below Morocco. Small dents in surface, mount rather wobbly.
Serious attempt at accuracy for smaller globe.

same as United Arab Republic. Rather detailed surface for a
children's globe.

is on physical geography but has many place and national names.
