Andrews,
A.H. & Co. Andrews Eight Inch Terrestrial globe with
the latest discoveries and Oceanic currents. A.H. Andrews &
Co. Chicago, Ill. c1872. Dull paper gores over plaster.
Without time dial. Mounted as a tellurium. Oceans finished
in pea green with isothermal lines, ecliptic, ocean
currents and elliptical analemma. Mounted on end of nickel
plated gear case arm from metal post protruding from a
chromed dome cover above a heavy iron twelve sided base.
Base decorated with seasons scale and figures of the zodiac
in colors, minor flaking and losses. Gear train still
functions. Serrated metal sun figure sits atop center post
and has a metal rod protruding through it holding a black
and white painted orb. A complex movable apparatus fits
around the earth globe with two fixed semicircles and a

ANDREWS TELLURIAN CIRCA 1872

Andrews,
A.H. & Co. Andrews Eight Inch Terrestrial globe with
the latest discoveries and Oceanic currents. A.H. Andrews &
Co. Chicago, Ill. c1872. Dull paper gores over plaster.
Without time dial. Mounted as a tellurian. Oceans finished
in a dark pea green with isothermal lines, ecliptic, ocean
currents and elliptical analemma. Fine globe mounted on
end of bronze decorated gear case arm protruding from a dome
cover above a heavy iron twelve sided base. Base decorated
with seasons scale and figures of the zodiac in colors,
minor flaking and losses. Portions expertly restored. Gear
train still functions. The serrated metal sun figure and
metal rod protruding through it holding a black and white
painted moon orb, are entirely new but hard to detect. The
complex movable cage-like apparatus that fits around the
earth globe with two fixed semicircles and a third that
pivots in the 90 degree range between the other two, is
missing but could be restored at extra cost. A movable
chromed pointer with incised gradients pivots from the north
pole and reaches the equator is still present. Africa shows
mid-19th Century boundaries; Dakota Territory not yet
divided; does not show Yellowstone Park in the U.S. Orb, due
to the one time presence of this meridian cage, is in
unusually nice condition. Scarce size.
