identical in size and plate detail to Botero's 1595 America. Extra
wide North America, with Anian, Uiuira, Sierra Nevada, Nova
Hispania, Florida, Nova Francia, etc. South America has Ortelius
'potato' shape, with Peru, Brasilia, Amazones, and numerous other
recognizable place names. Huge Nova Guinea is connected to
Antarctica. There is an unnamed body of water in North America,

"noted" map of what is now the United States not showing New
Orleans. Note upper left states: "You will find Florida in this
map called Louisiana; the Misisipi [sic] R. St. Louis; Massacre
Port & Haven of ye Isl. Dauphine; le Missiours R.R. St. Philip;
Ouabach R.R. St.Jerom. For thus the French have altered ye names
in ye King's grant of those countries to Monsieur Crozat." Still
utilizes the curious Lahontan configuration of the Great Lakes.
Details include Fort(s) Prudhomme in west Tennessee; La Salle,
Crevecoeur, etc. near Ilinese L. (Lake Michigan). Also French Fort
in Texas along with many names such as Abaham on the Robec River.
There were Black Spaniards and White Spaniards at Quichesse and in
Texas much much more such as "cou. full of beeves" near the Beef
River, the site of the future King Ranch. Florida peninsula is
called Tegesta. First published in Moll's Atlas Geographicus v.5,
later in Thomas Osborne's 1745 Collection of voyages, and later
still in Bowles's Atlas Minor. 1781. An anonymous French school
geography which went through many editions was dedicated to a
Mademoiselle Crozat. Thereafter they were always called the 'Geographie

Establissement Russe". Small peninsula marked "Alaschka" next to
Bristol River and "Deux Volcans" spouting flames. In northern
Arizona are "Nat. Apaches" and two towns called "Casa grande". 10
tribal villages and presidio names in Texas, which is a part of "Louisiane"
and "N. Leon". In western Canada are found "Dog Ribb's Indians"
Odd place names such as Parrisburg in Georgia, "Bath" in North
Carolina, "Jasmestown" in Virginia. "Kentucki" is a place name
