SESSA. AMERICA. VENICE. [1599]. COPPER ENGRAVING. From the Venice edition of Ptolemy, this map of the Western Hemisphere follows the Ortelius style. Virtually identical in size and plate detail to Botero's 1595 America. Extra wide North America, with Anian, Uiuira, Sierra Nevada, Nova Hispania, Florida, Nova Francia, etc. South America has Ortelius 'potato' shape, with Peru, Brasilia, Amazones, and numerous other recognizable place names. Huge Nova Guinea is connected to Antarctica. There is an unnamed body of water in North America, which could be interpreted as a lake. Clean & sharp. 7.5"H. x 9.75"W. VERY GOOD.  I.D.#21719. SOLD.

Unusual French map that shows Western Canada and Alaska separated by a strait between the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic. Entire northwest as an island. St. Laurence River flows to the West. Baja is part of mainland extending north to Quiuira Roy. C(ape) Mendocino, Coste Brava, and many mythical cities in nortwest separated from the rest of the continent. MORDEN, ROBERT. A MAP OF FLORIDA AND YE GREAT LAKES OF CANADA BY ROBT. MORDEN. LONDON. c1700. OUTLINE HAND COLOR. COPPER ENGRAVING. Leaf Ffff2 [p.587] from an edition of his Atlas terrestris (1695). Very rare colonial map of eastern North America with the colonies and settlements names along the coast. "Florida" included the entire southeast as it is known now. CHATELAIN, HENRI ABRAHAM (1684-1743). CARTE DU GOUVERNEMENT DE L'AMERIQUE. PARIS. 1705. MODERN PARTIAL HAND COLOR. COPPER ENGRAVING. Finely engraved calligraphic plate from his "Atlas Historique" published about 1705. It lists in chart form the rulers of the various regions of the Western Hemisphere. Also the ecclesiastical rulers. Four small engraved vignette views of councils meeting in elegant interiors. Also a small map of the Western Hemisphere. MOLL, HERMAN. A MAP OF NEW FRANCE Containing Canada, Louisiana &C. In Nth America. According To The Patent Granted By The King Of France To Monsieur Crozat, Dated The 14th Of Sep. 1712, N.S. And Registered In The Parliament Of Paris The 24th Of The Same Month. By H. Moll, Geographer. [LONDON]. 1717. COPPER ENGRAVING. Moll's detailed and "noted" map of what is now the United States not showing New Orleans. Note upper left states: "You will find Florida in this map called Louisiana; the Misisipi [sic] R. St. Louis; Massacre Port & Haven of ye Isl. Dauphine; le Missiours R.R. St. Philip; Ouabach R.R. St.Jerom. For thus the French have altered ye names in ye King's grant of those countries to Monsieur Crozat." Still utilizes the curious Lahontan configuration of the Great Lakes. Details include Fort(s) Prudhomme in west Tennessee; La Salle, Crevecoeur, etc. near Ilinese L. (Lake Michigan). Also French Fort in Texas along with many names such as Abaham on the Robec River. There were Black Spaniards and White Spaniards at Quichesse and in Texas much much more such as "cou. full of beeves" near the Beef River, the site of the future King Ranch. Florida peninsula is called Tegesta. First published in Moll's Atlas Geographicus v.5, later in Thomas Osborne's 1745 Collection of voyages, and later still in Bowles's Atlas Minor. 1781. An anonymous French school geography which went through many editions was dedicated to a Mademoiselle Crozat. Thereafter they were always called the 'Geographie Crozat.' 7.3"H. x 10.1"W. FINE. HALLEY, EDMUND. A CHART OF THE ATLANTICK OCEAN FROM BUTTON'S ISLAND TO PORT ROYALL... LONDON. 1728. COPPER ENGRAVING. Large two-sheet sea chart of the North American coast from northern Newfoundland to Port Royall in North Carolina. Beautiful inset map of the areas surrounding Chesapeake Bay. From the atlas, "A general coasting pilot". The cartographer was Edmund Halley for whom the comet was named. Part of a four-sheet wall chart. 19.5"H. x 23.3"W. The Pownall map of the British colonies by a man who served as governor of two states. Extremely detailed depiction of mountains, rivers, forts (small trees cover most areas), Great Lakes, coastal & tidewater settlements and especially native tribes and villages with copious notes such as: Remainder of the Natchez allies of the English (W. Tn.); "Chactaws or Chattas call'd Flat Head Indians" (Miss.); "Apaches Vaqueros"; "The Confederate (Iroquois) Indians July 19, 1701 at Albany surrendered their Beaver Hunting Country to the English to be defended by them..." One of the "Maps for Mr. Postlethwayt's Dictionary of Commerce..." taken from the 4th edition, 1774. Skillfully joined and professionally laid down on linen. Malachy Postlethwayt's remarkable encyclopedia of world trade, with emphasis on British America, included this map on four sheets. Copies are usually found with later coloring to "enhance" the two fine pictorial cartouches by Gravelot. This specimen is original and uncolored. Includes the boundaries of the first Peace of Paris, signed Feb.10, 1763. ROBERT SAYER AND JNO. BENNETT. LONDON. 1777. ORIGINAL OUTLINE HAND COLOR. COPPER ENGRAVING. Sayer and Bennett's huge hemisphere map detailing the provisions of the treaty which ended the French and Indian War.  The various articles of the treaty are finely engraved in various places on the map surface.  Title within a large cartouche displaying a tropical sylvan landscape.  Professionally joined.  Shows the 13 original colonies with their borders west to the Mississippi River; East and West Florida, Louisiana including west of Mississippi River; then large New Mexico including Texas which is fairly detailed west to "Apaches de Navayo'; beyond Rio Colorado lies huge unexplored New Albion with mythical "Sea of the West" and "Tive of the West" projected by a dotted line.  Excellent depiction of native tribes and towns.  European settlements.  A table shows areas controlled by Britain including Nantucket, E. & W. Florida, etc. A splendid wall map that shows America at the outbreak of the Revolution.  Listed in a panel to the right are the articles from the 1763 Treaty of Paris which effectively extended the British colonies to the Mississippi River and assured that English and not French would be our national language.  Inset:  The Supplement to North America containing the countries adjoining to Baffins & Hudsons Bays. 41"H. x 47"W. COPPER ENGRAVING. Handsome two-sheet scientific chart of magnetic observations made by all the major voyagers in the North Pacific up until 1775. Sharp impression on heavy laid paper. The dimensions here are larger than a set offered in England in 1986. All adjacent land masses shown from Cochinchine, Chine, Coree,and Japon to ALASCHKA, Nootka, Cap Flattery, Calafornie (Baja), to Terre Ferme (Panama). Interior of N.Am. divided between Nouvau. Mexique, Mexique Louisiane, Floride, Etats-Unis (U.S.) and Canada. Cuba, Chesapeak, Long Island, and C. Cod also named.Some marginal spotting. 22.25"H. x 42.6"W (for both maps joined). ANONYMOUS. AMERIQUE SEPTENTRIONALE. PARIS. 1784 after. OUTLINE HAND COLOR. COPPER ENGRAVING. Unidentified French book illustration map showing the entire continent but calling the new United States the "Republique des XIII. provinces". Interesting Northwestern configurations based on the De L'Isle-Buache misconceptions. Has an island "I. Unalaschka Establissement Russe". Small peninsula marked "Alaschka" next to Bristol River and "Deux Volcans" spouting flames. In northern Arizona are "Nat. Apaches" and two towns called "Casa grande". 10 tribal villages and presidio names in Texas, which is a part of "Louisiane" and "N. Leon". In western Canada are found "Dog Ribb's Indians" Odd place names such as Parrisburg in Georgia, "Bath" in North Carolina, "Jasmestown" in Virginia. "Kentucki" is a place name west of "Appalaches". Hawaii (Isles de Sandwich ou O-why-hee) only 15 degrees west of California and very large in size. Annotation about Cook's death in 1779. Oversize "Hudsons Bai".
