Extremely decorative map of central Germany south of Magdeburg surrounded by Prussian Saxony. Bottom left is an interesting scale of German Meilen, distances between villages of Anhalt. Lower center is depicted a natural outcropping near Harzgerode called Teuffels-muehl, used as an observatory in early times. Lower right are the arms of the Princes of Anhalt held by aloft by a muse while below putti practice the trades and agriculture of Anhalt. Title vignette upper left, below which are the towns of Halberstadt and Quedlinburg, in whose ancient abbey are buried the bones of King Heinrich I, known as Heinrich the German. ZOLLMANN, FRIEDRICH (1690-1762). "DUCATUS SAXONIAE SUPERIORIS..." HOMANN HEIRS. NUREMBERG. 1732. PARTIAL HAND COLOR.  COPPER ENGRAVING. Zollmann was a Dutch cartographer who worked for the Homann's.  His work is rather good and scarce.  Illustrated along lower margin in a wide landscape is a joust between knights held in A.D.1263.  Along upper margin many seals and coats of arms of the many counts that supported the dukedom.  Sharp impression, original color.  Shows part of Bohemia.    18.8' H. x 21.8”W. Shows in the lower right the location of Luitpold Arena, site of Hitler's famous party day rallys. Streets have their Nazi names, such as Ernst Vom Rath Allee next to the "Fuehrer-Tribune" where Hitler gave his speeches. Ernst vom Rath was a young cultural attaché with the Paris German embassy murdered by a Jewish refugee in November 1938. This, and the massive state funeral that followed, gave rise to the national anti-semitic disturbances known as Kristall-Nacht.
