1627. OUTLINE HAND COLOR. COPPER ENGRAVING. Wilshire from an early edition of Speed's Theatre
of empire Great Britain. John Speed (1552-1629) a famed English
cartographer, is noted for his county maps of England and Wales.
With fourteen coats of arms of local gentry, among them Robert Cecill, and a town plan of Salesbvry
(Salisbury). The Cecil family of Hatfield house became the
Marquises of Salisbury. Also, upper right, a view of ancient
Stonehenge showing five contemporary tourists and a dog. Strong
impression with early color. Slight separation at lower fold but

yet in the AMPR. Tooley states that Overton flourished between
1607 and 1664. The other issues are either Bowles or Willdey;
the title here corresponds most with Bowles. The Bowles reading
said "Showing" rather than "Shewing". Professional restoration
especially at the centerfold. Generally well preserved. Rare
