on the same sheet with compass roses and little ships. Original
outline coloring. Browned, corners restored, margins reinforced.
Note on upper chart reads, "Here ye Indians came down to us & were
very kind i helping us to Provision. Although in continual war
with the Spaniards. Here is fres water." Handsome period English

Not an aerial view but a small relief map of the canal. Shows
profile and statistics of construction then under way "to be
realized within two years." Map on brown craft paper mount. Early
notes show location of Contractors Hill, Gold Hill and Cucaracha.
At top of map the history of the efforts to build a canal. Gray
made an industry of creating maps and models of the canal. Scarce.
Mount weak at folds, map loose at one end. Small water stains and
