Randall west to "City of Rocks" (near 113 degrees w.), buttes, rivers, creeks, etc. Includes the 174 p. report:... report of Brevet Brigadier General W.F. Raynolds, on the exploration of the Yellowstone and the country drained by that river. (40th Cong., 1st sess. Senate. Ex.Doc.No.77). Howes W88 A four-page preliminary report was issued in Senate Executive Document 1, 1860; the Civil War prevented earlier publication in this completed form. Fold repair. 26.8"H. x 41.5"W. GOOD. RAYNOLDS, WILLIAM FRANKLIN/FERDINAND VANDIVEER  HAYDEN. U.S. WAR DEPARTMENT. MAP OF THE YELLOWSTONE AND MISSOURI  RIVERS AND THEIR TRIBUTARIES explored by Capt. W.F. Raynolds, Topl. Engrs and  1st Lieut. H.E. Maynadier 10th Infy. assistant. 1859-60. To  accompany a report of the Bureau of Topographical Engineers.  Lt.Col. Hartman Bache in charge... Prepared to accompany the  geological report of F.V. Hayden, M.D. geologist to the  expedition. WAR DEPARTMENT. WASHINGTON, DC. 1868. PARTIAL HAND COLOR. LITHOGRAPHY.  Wheat (1012) 1860. "... an extremely well-drawn  map, and except for the fact that it contains certain information gathered between the time of its making and that of its actual  printing, which was not until 1868, it is probably the best map  of its area that had been produced.- Carl I. Wheat Vol.IV.-  p.187. Wheat mentions also a manuscript map made on the expedition [1860, Raynolds, 2] of its first season that was never published. He makes no mention of this geology version that  illustrated Hayden's report. Geologic data has been superimposed  by hand and the title somwhat expanded. Lith. by Julius Bien.  Brown and fragile, with margin loss lower right corner and  fragments gone from right margin. Restorations. Hand colored and  exceedingly scarce.   27"H. x 41.75"W. GOOD. Lith. by Julius Bien.  Another defective copy of I.D.#13106, very brown and fragile,  with upper left corner gone, long surface repair in center.  Equivalent to a "reading copy" of a scarce book.    27"H. x 41.75"W.
