military portraits at each corner: Winfield Scott, Banjamin F.
Butler, Col. Elmer E. Ellsworth and Maj. Robert Anderson (called
here a General). Top center portrait of Abraham Lincoln, with
below in center seven oval portraits of his first cabinet.
Letterpress gives brief biographies and population figures. "Dacotath"
misspelling on map. No copy in the Library of Congress map
collection and possibly unique. Professionally restored and laid
down on new linen. Original wooden rods preserved. Small losses to
letterpress including parts of names beneath portraits. Hand

at the middle of the Civil War. Maury served the Confederacy so
the reissue was revised. Maury's name is deleted from the title
credit and his picture removed from above the time chart with its
view of the National Observatory. Pictorial vignettes at top now
show Mt. Vernon and U.S. Capitol but the small continental section
has been moved to below vignette view of capitol. Heights of
mountains and lengths of rivers charts still surround hemisphere
world map top center. Left and right margins shows medallion busts
of the U.S. Presidents. Inset demographic maps are Hitchcock's
Geologic map of the U.S., Loren Blodget's map of the annual
rainfall but Traill Green's zoology map is revised with small
animals now used to show their location. Above the title is now a
vignette of the Washington Monument and above, the table of
air-line distances between various cities. Along bottom there is
still the vignette view of NY, a table of the 1860 U.S. census,
and a large inset demographic map showing agricultural staples and
distribution of plants. At left, above the inset maps are still
the religious denominations chart and the revised time dial
without picture of Maury. Excellent condition, only one large
