lots in the newly organized town. It was the "terminus of the
Dodge City and Cimarron Valley Railway, which is to be part of the
Santa Fe system. This town will be a division point and is located
on the Oklahoma line, eight miles east of the southwest corner of
Kansas." Illustrative of the extent to which railroads shaped
where people settled and where towns developed. For every one that
prospered and grew many others stagnated. Elkhart and Richfield
exist today but not to the extent the developers had hoped.
