INKWELL SET WITH OUR COMPANY LOGO ITEMS: GLOBE, BOOKS, MAPS,
SEXTANT AND TELESCOPE
Globe artifact.
French. Cast art metal double inkwell stand in rococo taste.
Curved reticulated letter holder set behind a raised center
sculpture of a world globe poised on a pile of books, rolled
charts, a sextant and a telescope, centering on an incurvate
rococo footed stand. Centerpiece terrestrial globe circled at
equator by zodiacal signs, plus names of Asie, Chine, Siberie,
Afrique, France and Amerique du Nord. Flanked by two glass
inkwells with cast rococo covers and glass bottoms molded with
"C B". Front right edge of stand engraved with "BROSSY". C.B. =
(Chez?) Brossy. (Paris?). c1870. French bronze. Beautiful
original art casting in fine condition.

LT. 34TH REGT. COURSE OF THE RIVER MISSISSIPI, FROM THE
BALISE TO FORT CHARTRES;... taken on an expedition to the
Illinois in the latter end of the year 1765. By Lieut. Ross of
the 34th Regiment: improved from the surveys of that river made
by the French. ROBT. SAYER & BENNETT. LONDON . 1775, JUNE
1. PART COLOR. COPPER ENGRAVING. The famous Ross map of the
river, the first map to result from the English occupation of
the Illinois country following the Treaty of Paris (1765). The
first official survey of the lower Mississippi. It extends north
to just below St. Louis in what is now Missouri. The first issue
appeared in 1772; this 1775 issue has many changes in the area
around New Orleans including the addition of forts St. Leon and
St. Mary. Shows Baton Rouge and Lake Pontchartrain. Op cit.
Ross, whose first name is unrecorded, was a lieutenant and
military surveyor with the 34th Regiment. Beautiful clean copy
with original outline color. On two sheets joined together.

MASSIVE 32 INCH LIGHTED
LIBRARY GLOBE ON "EISENHOWER" STAND
EXCEPTIONAL
CARY TABLE GLOBE AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF VICTORIA'S REIGN
  English.
G. & J. Cary. Cary's new Terrestrial Globe, delineated
from the best authorities extant: exhibiting the late
discoveries towards the North Pole, and every improvement in
Geography to the present time. Made and sold by G. & J. Cary,
86, St. James Street, Jan. 1, 1837. G. & J. Cary. London. 1837.
12" table globe with coated gores over plaster, brass time dial
at North Pole. Oceans finished in pale greenish blue with
ecliptic, equinoctial colure, circumnavigations and analemma
scale with table of equation in Pacific. Solidly built full
mount Chippendale stand consisting of brass full ring meridian
fitting into unusual brass horizon ring supporters, four
conforming brass ferules. The central cradle with thumbscrew
adjustment. Above light walnut short turned column and S-curve
tripod legs with elongated foot, stretcher supported compass
below. Zodiac horizon ring scale without blemish and globe
surface likewise intact. Queen Victoria came to the throne in
1837 after the death of her uncle King George IV. The geography
shown on this surface marks that known at the start of a
momentous period for British exploration and naval power.
Beautifully preserved, this globe was from the stock of Trevor
Philip & Sons Ltd, a leading London dealer in early scientific
instruments, ship models and globes.
